IE8 from Microsoft Has Online Ad World Freaking Out

The beta version of Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) has the online advertising world scared that they won’t be able to track traffic or have as much control over ads in the future. Some believe that the new version of IE8 has been designed to hurt Google’s online advertising model.
The new InPrivate feature has been nicknamed “Porn mode” because of it’s ability to hide search paths of users (cookies, cached pages, etc.). Of course, Microsoft is downplaying any negatives of InPrivate and playing up the positives. And it’s true that for users this is a great tool that allows users to opt out sharing info, but it will make it more difficult to accurately track user habits – just about the time we are finally figuring out how to measure it too.

Photoshop Launching Mobile Version

Ok, first I have to say “about time.”  Of course, this isn’t a full version and is really only good for uploading, but it’s a start.   The user of this new app will be able to upload images to mobile phones via Photoshop.com that will then sync it to Elements version 7.

Best Small Community in America

I’m lucky enough to live in one of the best small communities in America – according to Money Magazine.  My home of Suwanee, Georgia is growing at a good pace and growing in all the right directions with new businesses, multiple new parks, greenways, and outdoor dining.  If you’re looking for a good place to raise your kids or just want a place near Atlanta with a safe and healthy environment consider Suwanee.

Google Knol is Live

Google Knol has finally launched. If you’re not familiar with Knol yet it’s sort of like Wikipedia except that authorship is highly valued. I’m sure Google would love to own Wikipedia (imagine the ad revenue on all those millions of pages?), but it was never for sale so they did what any good business does and made their own version, and tried to make it better than the original.

I’m still up in the air about whether Knol will beat Wikipedia. Google has the brain power to do just about anything, but Wikipedia has a strong footing and a hard-core following. There will be a large number of people that will reject Google Knol simply because it’s built and managed by a for profit company.

I also see Knol as a place for spammers to congregate by the thousands. It will take some forward thinking to keep Knol from becoming a glorified article directory. Wait, isn’t that what it is already?

Waffle House Wedding

This is a touching story about a couple that got married at a Dacula, Georgia Waffle House.   Story from the Gwinnett Daily Post.   This is not a joke, but it is funny.

DACULA – As the famous twang of Hank Williams Jr. blasted from an SUV stereo Friday afternoon, about 30 folks socialized, sipped soda and puffed on cigarettes. No, this wasn’t a Fourth of July backyard barbecue. It was the run-up to a wedding. In a Waffle House parking lot.

The lucky couple, George “Bubba” Mathis and Pamela Christian – both 23 and employees at the Dacula diner located at the Ga. Highway 316/U.S. Highway 29 interchange – wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I don’t know, it’s something different,” Mathis said while fixing his tie prior to the ceremony.

For years, the couple tried to marry on their Independence Day anniversary. But the bride was always scheduled to work. Instead of waiting any longer – she got the day off at the last minute; Mathis had to report for the morning shift – the couple of nine years decided to seal the deal at work.

The result was what a NASCAR tailgate might be like if Hank Jr. himself stopped by with all his rowdy friends: Loud and proud – country music, storytelling and plenty of Dale Earnhardt paraphernalia – and not an iota of pretentiousness.

Shortly after exchanging vows under the shade of a tree next to the parking lot, both man and wife let out sighs of relief as they picked up their two little blonde girls and chatted with family and friends. But there was not time to relax – the wedding cake had to be cut inside.

“It’s been crazy, madness,” the bride said. “Finally, everything worked out.”

Standing nearby, the father of the newly minted Mrs. Pamela Mathis, William Christopher, wondered if anyone had videotaped the ceremony. He wants to send it in to CMT.

“I think it’s pretty redneck myself,” he said, laughing. “But I’m a redneck anyway, so.”

The couple plans to honeymoon Monday and Tuesday, but then it’s back to work.

The destination?

“I don’t know yet,” Mathis said.

Google Confusing the Hell out of Me

I built a site on a highly searched for topic and built the best site with the best information.  For months Google kept me number one for targeted keywords.  Then they dropped me to the second page.  I’m sure they will put me back on the top again, but why remove me if they are only to put me back up later?  Maybe it’s to check out how other sites will do, and that’s fine if those other sites were of any quality.  The problem is they’re not.  The sites on the first page really stink.  Some are not even Websites but search results pages from other search engines.  It just doesn’t make sense.  I guess we still have a long way to go in perfecting Internet search.

HR Software Knowledge

I just got back from the Sage Insights conference in D.C.  This was an excellent event for partners and for those needing and wanting to learn about HR  Software, payroll software, and the future of SaaS.

Cheap Web Hosting

I am constantly getting asked about cheap Web hosting.  I have a few favorites, but I also like to point out that cheap isn’t always best.  In the dozen or so years I’ve been hosting sites I’ve dealt with some great hosting companies, some ok hosts, and some really bad ones.  To help those of you that need a good host here is a page for cheap web hosting that I created with my top picks.  These are affordable companies that are also of excellent quality.

Busy with Affiliates

I’ve been busy building landing pages and testing ideas for affiliates.  I do really well with Google Adsense but would like to branch out into other areas for several reasons.  One is simply to protect my ASSets and the other is to, of course, increase my income.

If anyone has any good landing pages  or tips please share.  I’m always looking for a better converting landing page.

South Carolina Tourism

I finally finished my most recent Website.  This one I worked on with the help of my brother and cousin.  I’m quite proud of this family effort.  So, if you are thinking about visiting the South anytime soon, or are just interesting in visiting the South check out my new South Carolina Tourism Website.  This site has about thirty pages of goodies on SC.  If you’ve never been to the South Carolina coast you really don’t know what you’re missing.  There is nothing like Charleston in the world.  Well, except maybe for Savannah.
