In order to understand why the selection for free ringback tones exists, it helps to know how ringback tones work. A ringback tone, unlike a standard ringtone that is stored on a user’s cell phone, is stored on a network server. When a call is made the network has to find the selected ringback tone and then play it until the call is answered. All of this requires storage and maintenance, so it is not cost effective to offer free ringback tones. However there are free ringback tones available from Sprint, but there is an extremely limited (less than ten) to choose from. It should be noted that even though Sprint’s ringback tone are free, you would still pay a recurring monthly fee.

Another way to get free ringback tones is by creating them yourself with programs such as Ventones or the freeware Ringdroid. These programs allow you to customize your own sounds or to match your favorites to create a ringback tone that is uniquely yours. An additional free ringback service in Jamster which allows you to program yours phone with popular songs and times. Should you want more obscure tones, there may be a small fee.

Free ringback tones are out there, you just have to be willing to take the time to look.

Google now controls over 70% of searches. I’m a fan of Google and have been a fan for about as long as Google has been online. I love the company and their culture. Google is an innovative company and has done some great things, but… When is too big bad? One reason I love Google is because I’m a capitalist, a capitalist that believes that competition makes everything better.

We need competition in the search market to keep it innovative and to make it even better. Anyone that has worked online knows that anyone can game Google and the other search engines and despite all their efforts the results are still not as good as they should be. We need competition to make search better. Just look at what Microsoft’s dominance has done to office software. How much better is Excel or Word now than in was ten years ago?

It’s bad enough that I can’t get on a plane without getting strip searched, but it really stinks that I can’t buy a tube of toothpaste without getting harassed by door Nazis at Wal-Mart. Of course the giant retail chain refers to them as greeters, and at one time that’s what they were, but it recent years they’ve become what I call “Door Nazis.”

Wal-Mart used to be a place where you could go to buy lots of fun things really cheap and maybe even run into a few old friends. The checkout process was fairly pleasant and on your way out a nice old man would smile and thank you for shopping. Things have changed.

Now when you visit Walmart you can’t find a basket (they only provide shopping carts because they know you’ll fill them with more impulse items), there are few registers open creating long lines, and when you finally try to leave the store one of their Door Nazis stops you to make sure you are not stealing what you have just purchased (translation: Now Own).

Because of this I rarely shop at Wal-Mart. Even if Target is more expensive I shop there because I’m treated better. I don’t have to wait in long lines at Target and I don’t have to submit to an anal cavity search after my purchase. I understand Wal-Mart trying to reduce shoplifting but I wonder how many millions a year they are losing from customers like me that hate their Door Nazis.

My wife recently sold her 2002 Honda Accord. We listed it online and had two good prospects within the first day. Both were ready to pay with cash. It was so much easier than dealing with a newspaper or traditional auto sales techniques.

Buying or selling a car online is easier now than ever before. There are several good auto sales online Websites like easyautosales.com that make selling your car, or buying one on the Internet easier than ever. With the Web even finding used cars for sale is easy.

The days of sifting through every local paper in your area and driving all over the place looking for the right car are over. With the new Internet car searching and selling has been simplified.

Of course we are also seeing the problems of taking too large of risk as well. It’s a balance based on common sense, innovation, strategy, and a strong gut.

Yesterday I got a letter from Charter Cable offering me the Triple Play package for less than $100 per month. This is a good savings over what I’m paying right now, and I almost fell for it until I remembered how much trouble I had with Charter in the past. I dealt with Charter for about one year before I finally gave up with their customer-no-service and switched to Direct TV.

When I was a customer of Charter Communications Inc. I had constant problems that I couldn’t get resolved because their customer support department was a waste of space. My bills were constantly wrong and my service stunk. Charter is not worth the trouble just to watch TV and surf the Net.

I’m glad that I remembered that Charter Communications is a terrible company and that the only reason they are still in business is due to monopolies.
Don’t take my word about how much Charter sucks. Just check out their stock price (.38 cents at the time of the posting) and read what the experts are saying about Charter.

It’s easy and fun to jump on the bandwagon when things are good, but it’s a lot scarier to do so when things are tanking (like right now). But in truth you often come out far ahead when you take risk when others won’t. If you buy some of the good stocks now you will be happy later if you’re willing and able to hold onto them for a few years.

Starting a new technology company or Website now may not seem like such a good idea either, but if you have stamina, a good idea, and the ability to live without profit for a couple of years you will have a good chance of success when things do improve.

Just a thought…
