Learn from AOLs Mistakes

AOL just cut another 2000 jobs in an effort to reorganize.  AOL has been diving for several years as the market changed from dial-up to high-speed Internet connections.  AOL should have seen the change coming years ago and made plans for the future but instead they rode the model of overpriced dial-up service into the ground while the world around them changed.

AOL helped build the Web into what it is today by making Internet connections simple for the mainstream consumer.  They had a great idea but they didn’t look ahead.  Now they are scrambling to survive.  This is a lesson that should be learned by everyone in the Internet business.  If you get something right and hit it big start planning your next move immediately.  The Internet changes too fast to live off of one success.
